The Wilkin's Green Committee set up in 2003 to oversee project and seek funding opportunities. By 2004 a Community Gardening Course run by TAFE Outreach grew out of the Belonging Project, a Marrickville council initiative involving local community leaders and community members with a vision for the future of Marrickville that including protecting and developing the existing green space and habitat located on the western boundary of Wilkin's Public School grounds bordering Livingstone Road.
